I’m sitting on my back porch looking out over the yard as the rising sun brightens the Eastern sky.

A politician got himself shot this week by a remarkably poor marksman.

According to the reports I heard, a bunch of politicians were doing practice for a baseball game and, while the politicians were gathered in one field, someone with a long gun opened fire. The shooter hit one politician in the ass and managed to wound two security people in ways that were less than life threatening. The politician had damage to internal organs and merited emergency room treatment, but is in stable condition and expected to live, possibly to recover fully. The wounded security personnel were released from the hospital and attended the baseball game. The shooter of substandard marksmanship skills will not be attending any games of any sort within the foreseeable future.

According to reports I heard, the shooter was able to get off some fifty shots and was able to strike three targets, one seriously and the other two less so. Obviously, Annie Oakley this guy was not!

Everyone is terribly horrified that someone with substandard marksmanship skills tried to take out a bunch of politicians. The usual suspects are calling for all guns to be seized and the American Populace to be disarmed as is the case in most of Europe. That’s the ticket. Remember how safe it is to go walking on London Bridge on a weekend or to attend a pop concert?

The usual suspects are horrified that a third rate politician should be gunned down even though he managed to live to tell the tale. I’m not personally rejoicing over the fate of the politician, no matter to which party he belongs. But the man is a thief. He takes as his payment money stolen from Americans (taxes). This politician made the deliberate choice to place himself in harm’s way in a city where murder is the rule rather than the exception.

Had I been given the opportunity, I would have advised this man to avoid politics as a career and stay as far from the Beltway as possible. Had he taken my advice, he would not be in a hospital as I type this.

Since this politician chose his vocation with deliberate action and afore thought, he is where he is today suffering the consequences of the choices he made. I wish this man all good fortune, but he made a conscious decision with the end result of his stay in a hospital and hoping for a full recovery.

It could have been worse.
