All the President’s Men

Exhibit One: Believing One’s Own Propaganda

-Hanther
The consequence is, of course (and we all know elections have consequences), that the American People understand we have no voice in our government; that elections in America are a factual sham, just as they were in the Old Soviet Union. That it makes no difference how we vote; what matters is who counts the vote and the Ruling Elite counts the vote and tabulates it to advantage. When the people no longer trust the integrity of the vote, the only path open for the self-identified Elite to rule is by brute force.

-William Barr
“To date, we have not seen fraud on a scale that could have affected a different outcome in the election,” Barr told The Associated Press on Tuesday, adding that most claims of fraud were “not systemic allegations” and that any allegations were run down.

-Judge Stephanos Bibas
“Free, fair elections are the lifeblood of our democracy. Charges of unfairness are serious. But calling an election unfair does not make it so. Charges require specific allegations and then proof. We have neither here,” 3rd Circuit Judge Stephanos Bibas, a Trump appointee, wrote for the three-judge panel, all appointed by Republican presidents.

-Politico
Senior Republicans are alarmed that Donald Trump’s accusations of widespread voter fraud in Georgia and elsewhere, which he has not substantiated, will have the unintended side effect of discouraging his voters from turning out in the runoffs.

-Joe Cunningham at Redstate.com
There is almost always election fraud, and there is almost always voter suppression. Republicans overplay the fraud and downplay the suppression while Democrats downplay the fraud and overplay the suppression. There has never, though, been enough votes cast fraudulently that could swing a national election on the scale that it would require to have changed 2020.

- From Hanther’s Letter to Congress
We anticipate that Americans who voted for President Trump will not vote again for Republicans who are party to the theft of his reelection by virtue of failing to seek, and ensure the public is made aware of, the truth about this fraud-wracked presidential race.

  - The Museum
So are the Republicans setting themselves up for self-fulfilling prophecy? If the elections are fraudulent why vote at all? And if they don’t vote the Democrats will win more and more elections, “proving” how fraudulent elections are. Thus, this becomes a feedback loop ceding the control of government to the Democrats.

Important Safety Note: You are not supposed to believe in your own propaganda.

It might be well to remember what happened at Saipan in World War Two where the civilian Japanese population was so indoctrinated with their governments anti- American propaganda, they committed mass suicide rather than fall into the hands of the “savage” Americans.

- And as Adam Serwer at the Atlantic points out, they probably don’t
When they say the 2020 election was stolen, Trumpists are expressing their view that the votes of rival constituencies should not count, even though they understand, on some level, that they do. They are declaring that the nation belongs to them and them alone, whether or not they actually comprise a majority, because they are the only real Americans to begin with.

Exhibit 2: Two Big Winners from the Last Four Years

Russian President Putin
Unobstructed by any coherent US Policy, Russia expanded its influence world-wide while President Trump went after our Allies and China.

Senator Mitch McConnell
The True Head of the Republican Party smartly, with President Trump in tow, passed his Party’s agenda right down the line. It was brilliant to watch, a true political masterpiece that should be held up as an example for future generations. This is how to wield power in the US of A.

Exhibit 3: Reality Bites

-Mary Papenfuss at Huffpost
Fox Business host Lou Dobbs aired a segment on his program Friday debunking his own screeds about election fraud following a legal threat from a company he’s been baselessly attacking.
Dobbs featured a nonpartisan election expert who shot down his attacks after Fox News, which owns Fox Business, received a letter from a lawyer representing the election tech company Smartmatic.
“There are lots of opinions about the integrity of the election,” Dobbs said at the start of the segment, before turning to a pre-taped interview with Edward Perez of the nonprofit Open Source Election Technology Institute contradicting his claims about Smartmatic.
The letter said the three media operations have exaggerated the company’s role in the elections, and that Smartmatic was involved with only Los Angeles County’s publicly owned voting system.
As part of a scramble to avoid being sued by the company, the same fact-checking segment was aired on Fox News’ “Justice With Judge Jeanine” Saturday night. It is also scheduled to air on “Sunday Morning Futures,” hosted by Maria Bartiromo, on Sunday, Fox News told The Washington Post.

- Jill Colvin and Marc Levy at AP
Trump’s campaign and his allies have now filed roughly 50 lawsuits alleging widespread voting fraud. Almost all have been dismissed or dropped because there is no evidence to support their allegations.
Trump has lost before judges of both political parties, including some he appointed. And some of his strongest rebukes have come from conservative Republicans. The Supreme Court has also refused to take up two cases — decisions that Trump has scorned.

-Nick Robins-Early
Newsmax, a far-right news network that routinely peddles baseless conspiracy theories that favor Donald Trump, over the weekend began airing a lengthy clarification of its coverage about voter fraud in the presidential election.
In a nearly two-minute statement that is being read on all Newsmax shows, the channel is essentially walking back its own groundless claims that electronic voting system companies Smartmatic and Dominion were involved in some kind of nefarious attempt to steal the election.
“There are several facts our viewers and readers should be aware,” host John Tabacco said on Monday, before debunking a long list of conspiratorial claims.
“Neither Dominion nor Smartmatic has any relationship with George Soros. Smartmatic is a U.S. company and not owned by the Venezuelan government, Hugo Chavez or any foreign official or entity. Smartmatic states it has no operations in Venezuela,” he continued.

- David Moye
Charlie Kirk, the head of Turning Point USA — a right-wing student group that has attracted support from white nationalists, posted a tweet that he apparently thought would finally prove that Donald Trump’s baseless voter fraud allegations are true.
Kirk apparently thinks the number of counties a candidate wins matters more than the number of votes.
Barack Obama:
—69,000,000 votes
—873 counties
Donald Trump:
—75,000,000 votes
—2,497 counties
Joe Biden:
—81,000,000 votes
—477 counties
...And we’re not allowed to question his “victory”

“Look! We won so many counties with no people!” = Republican Participation Trophy.

Televangelist Pat Robertson declares that Biden will be president and that Trump "lives in an alternate reality," "is very erratic," and should not run again in 2024: "You've had your day and it's time to move on."

At the Exit: Finally, Voter Fraud with the Added Bonus of Dead People Voting
- Nina Golgowski
A Pennsylvania man is facing up to 19 years in prison after prosecutors say he admitted to illegally casting a ballot in the general election for President Donald Trump as his dead mother and also registering his dead mother-in-law to vote with the intent to do the same.
Bruce Bartman, 70, was charged with two counts of perjury and one count of unlawful voting after allegedly registering both deceased women online to vote in the Nov. 3 election using either their driver’s license or social security number, prosecutors said Monday.
“He registered both of his deceased relatives as Republicans and he has admitted to the detectives who questioned him that he did this to further the campaign of Donald Trump,” Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said at a press conference.
